Peter Coombs FASA | Awarded OAM in King's Birthday Honours List
The ASA congratulates Peter Coombs FASA, on his Medal of the Order of Australia for significant service to sonography, to tertiary education and to clinical training.
An inaugural Fellow of the ASA, Peter is the Chief Sonographer at Monash Health where he founded the Monash Health Sonographer Fellowship program in 2014. He has worked as an ultrasound educator across the world including Tonga, Ethiopia, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Cambodia and the Solomon Islands.
At Monash University, he has been a senior lecturer in the Department of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences, is currently an advisor for Clinical Ultrasounds for the School of Biomedical Sciences and leads the research unit for the Masters in Medical Ultrasound.
Peter has coauthored over 50 peer-reviewed scientific publications and has received numerous awards including the ASA Victorian Sonographer of the Year in 2018, Humanitarian of the Year, Australasian Society for Ultrasound in Medicine, 2019 and Mentor of the Year, Australasian Sonographers Association, 2014.
Peter was awarded the ASA Pru Pratten Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999 and is a Life Member of the ASA.
