Celebrating Curiosity, Connection and a Lifetime of Impact: Jacqui Robinson receives 2025 Pru Pratten Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award

“Stay curious, embrace challenges, invest in your workplace and in the people alongside you.” That was the message from Jacqui Robinson, FASA, as she accepted the Australasian Sonographers Association’s 2025 Pru Pratten Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award at the Gala Dinner of ASA’s 31st Annual International Conference.

Speaking to a packed room of peers, mentors, and rising stars in the profession, Jacqui’s heartfelt speech reminded us that sonography is not just a job, but a lifelong commitment to learning, growth, and community. Her call to foster curiosity and connection resonated deeply, particularly with early career sonographers and students who are shaping the future of the profession.

Jacqui is a trailblazer in vascular ultrasound with a career spanning more than three decades. She has driven significant change through research, education and clinical practice, both in Australia and internationally.

In the early 1990s, Jacqui co-founded the Society for Vascular Technology of Great Britain and Ireland, and later established one of Australia’s most respected vascular diagnostic services at Liverpool Hospital in Southwest Sydney. Her dedication to equitable healthcare access has seen her develop programs and training tools for students, hospitals and communities, including dialysis nurses in rural and remote regions.

“Receiving the Pru Pratten Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award is a true honour that reflects not just my own journey, but the encouragement and support of every colleague, mentor, and friend who’s been with me along the way. I’m humbled and deeply grateful for this recognition, and for the legacy we’ve built together.”

Jacqui’s research has shifted diagnostic practice toward non-invasive vascular ultrasound, and her commitment to innovation continues today through her PhD on wearable vascular technologies for rural care. She is a regular ASA presenter, a former Chair of the Vascular Special Interest Group, an ASA Fellow and a widely cited researcher.

Her leadership has inspired generations of sonographers, medical students and registrars. Those who have worked alongside her describe a mentor who leads with humility, generosity and a deep passion for patient care.

The Pru Pratten Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award recognises individuals who have made a lasting and significant contribution to the sonography profession. Jacqui embodies this through her commitment to excellence, collaboration and advancing the field for the benefit of both sonographers and patients.

The Gala Dinner was a true celebration of the profession, bringing together colleagues from across Australia and New Zealand to recognise the contributions of individuals who are shaping the future of sonography. Jacqui’s speech was a highlight of the night, and a powerful reminder of the value of community and continuous learning.

On behalf of the ASA and the entire sonography community, congratulations to Jacqui Robinson on this well-deserved honour.
