ASA MEDIA RELEASE | New CEO at the helm of peak body for sonographers

The Australasian Sonographers Association (ASA), has announced the appointment of Tony Coles as incoming Chief Executive Officer, signalling a bold new chapter in the body’s advocacy on behalf of the sonography profession. The Australasian Sonographers Association (ASA) is the professional organisation for Australasian sonographers, the experts in ultrasound. The ASA has over 7,000 members, equating to more than 75% of Australasia’s sonographers.

Tony Coles joins ASA as Chief Executive Officer after having served as Chief Executive Officer for Audiology Australia, and previously the Australian Association of Gerontology. He began his career as an executive at the Commonwealth Department of Health and Aged Care.

ASA Chair Ian Schroen welcomed the appointment.

“The ASA Board is delighted to welcome Tony Coles as incoming Chief Executive Officer,” Ian Schroen said.

“Tony joins us with an impressive leadership background, a wealth of experience in the health sector, and a commitment to driving organisational growth and success."

“The ASA aims to create a healthier world through sonographer expertise, and Tony’s depth of experience in advocacy, research, professional development, and association leadership will position ASA to strengthen educational opportunities, quality and standards for the sonography profession.”

“Under Tony’s leadership, ASA will be a strong advocate for sonographers and the critical role they play in our health system, with high quality, timely diagnostic imaging crucial to patient diagnosis, treatment design, and outcomes,”

Tony Coles commenced with the ASA in September, saying:

“Sonographers play a critical role in our health system, with high quality, timely diagnostic imaging crucial to patient diagnosis, treatment design, and outcomes.”

“I look forward to positioning ASA to be a strong voice for the sonography profession and leading the next phase of growth for the diagnostic imaging sector.”

Tony Coles commenced his role with ASA on 25th September 2023 and is available for interview.
