Australian Federal Budget 2021–22

The Australian Federal Budget 2021–22 was handed down last night.

Outside of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic, new funding of relevance to sonographers includes:

Guaranteeing Medicare – Diagnostic imaging

  • $37 million to modernise diagnostic imaging, including:
    • $20.7 million to assist private diagnostic imaging providers to replace older diagnostic imaging equipment in rural and remote areas
    • $7.2 million to fund the development of a streamlined electronic referral solution

Preventive Health – Preventing pre-term birth

  • $13.7 million for the national rollout of a worldleading program to prevent pre-term birth in Australia.
