Soundeffects news October 2026 issue out now

Soundeffects news October 2026 coverThe latest issue of Soundeffects news takes a closer look at the people, experiences and opportunities that shape the working life of a sonographer.

From students beginning their clinical training, to experienced sonographers who have dedicated decades to the profession, this issue celebrates the many different paths a career in sonography can take.

Sonography is a profession built on knowledge, technical expertise and, perhaps most importantly, human connection. Throughout this issue, we hear from sonographers reflecting on their careers, the mentors who helped shape them, and the experiences that continue to inspire them.

  • Growing the next generation of sonographers. Associate Professor Chris Edwards reflects on the mentor who helped shape his career and the importance of developing the next generation of sonographers.
  • Clinical training beyond the surface. Recent New Zealand sonography graduates Amy Hoskins and Mina Mojdehi share insights from their clinical placements, including the benefits of training across two workplaces and advice for future students.
  • Mentoring in practice. Three pairs from the ASA Pilot Mentoring Program share how their mentoring partnerships have supported learning, professional growth and mutual development.
  • The weight we carry in the dark. Sonography can be deeply rewarding, but it can also be emotionally demanding. Jane Wardle explores why sonographer stress and burnout must be taken seriously to support the wellbeing of practitioners and the sustainability of the workforce.
