Why a Sonographer Awareness Campaign?
Sonographers are at the heart of diagnostic healthcare, yet many people don’t fully understand the depth of our profession. Too often, we’re seen as “just image-takers,” when in reality sonographers are highly trained professionals who provide essential diagnostic imaging across almost every area of medicine. This lack of awareness impacts recognition of their role in healthcare, and ultimately, the support they receive.
By recognising sonographers as skilled medical professionals, we highlight the essential part they play in saving lives, supporting patients, and strengthening our health system.
The ASA is proud to be launching the Sonographer Awareness Campaign to:
-
Raise public awareness of sonographers
-
Educate patients, policymakers and the health sector on their critical role
-
Shift perceptions from “image-takers” to skilled medical professionals
-
Share real stories to show the many ways sonographers work across healthcare.
What’s Coming
This October, during Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month, the ASA will launch an Australia and New Zealand-wide advertising campaign featuring real sonographers and their stories.
The campaign will include:
- A powerful advertisement telling the story of sonographers at work
- Short videos and social media clips
- Coverage across TV on demand, digital, and out-of-home media (billboards, bus stops, and more)
- A campaign page on the ASA website explaining what sonographers do and why it matters
How You Can Get Involved
This campaign is about all of us – the sonography profession. Here’s how members can help bring it to life:
- Follow the journey – we’ll be sharing behind-the-scenes updates in the lead up to launch
- Spot the campaign – if you see our ad in your community, take a photo and share it with ASA (or tag us on social media)
- Spread the word – show your family, friends, and colleagues what sonographers really do
