The placenta rarely receives the attention it deserves. It appears in every obstetric scan, yet its intricacies are often overshadowed by the excitement of seeing a developing baby. This March, our special education month shines a light on this remarkable organ and why a deeper understanding of placental ultrasound matters. 

For sonographers, the placenta offers far more than a location check or a quick comment on cord insert. It is a dynamic, multifunctional organ that sustains pregnancy and reflects both maternal and fetal wellbeing.  

Our focus this March is to once again collaborate with our international partners and place the placenta in the spotlight. Across webinars, case discussions and practical guidance, we will explore how to approach placental assessment with intention, confidence and clinical curiosity. From understanding normal variants to identifying red flags, the aim is to support sonographers in making placental evaluation an integral and valued part of every obstetric scan.
